Kew Gardens Treetop walkway

Tarzan movies, treehouses, and soaring aerial shots of rainforests have left us with an innate childlike desire and curiosity about what it’s like in the dense shared canopies of towering trees.

Is there a strange world up there, gliding amongst the tree branches, peering out into the tiny ecosystems they harbor?

How cool would it be to hop from one tree top to another?

Standing at a height of 18 meters (60 feet) and traversing a trail 200 meters (220 yards) long, The Treetop Walkway is one of Kew Gardens’ most popular attractions and allows you to gaze into this curious little world.

This article covers everything you must know about the Kew Gardens treetop walkway.

What to expect

Examine the intricate ecosystem found in the tree’s topmost branches—a world filled with lichen, mushrooms, birds, and insects.

You will walk through the branches of sweet chestnut, beech, horse chestnut, and various oak species that border the path.

Walk across this tree-lined path that gently flexes and sways as you peer into the life of deciduous woodland.

The walkway has a subtle, pleasing aesthetic with its rusted columns designed to blend in with the design.

Drawing inspiration from natural tree branches, the bridge lays out its trusses in the Fibonacci sequence.

You do not need a separate ticket for access to the treetop walkway; the Kew Gardens admission ticket is enough.
