Pompeii tours

A holiday in Italy is incomplete without visiting the Pompeii ruins.

Pompeii was a fledgling summer vacation destination for the Romans before it fell to nature’s fury.

In the summer of 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted and continued to release molten lava and ash for close to 24 hours. Thus, burying the city of Pompeii forever. Well, almost.

For in 1748 AD – more than 1500 years later – the city was discovered and excavations began.

Along with Pompeii a lot of other ruins such as Herculaneum, Oplontis, Boscoreale, and Stabia were also found. Sometimes tourists visiting the region try and combine two ruins at the same time. The most popular being a day tour of Herculaneum and Pompeii.
