Cancun Mexican Restaurants’ Menu
We are glad you decided to try out a Mexican restaurant during your Cancun holiday.
Be aware that the food of the Yucatán peninsula (the region where Cancun is located) is distinct from the rest of Mexico.
Food in this region is based on Mayan food habits with influences from the Caribbean and European (especially French) cultures.
To help you ease into Mexican food, let’s learn to differentiate between the four items in every Cancun Mexican restaurant’s menu – Quesadillas, tacos, fajitas, and burritos.
Taco: Tortilla + Filling
They can be either soft or hard tortilla shells. They are usually six inches in radius. You decide what meat you want in them.
To the meat, add lettuce, salsa, cheese, guacamole, tomatoes, etc., and stuff it into your mouth.
It is said that the real authentic taco only has meat, onion, and cilantro.
Quesadillas: Tortilla + Melted cheese
A quesadilla is two tortillas with cheese melted in between, with a filling of your choice.
The most common ingredients in this filling are chicken, beef, shrimp, onions, peppers, etc.
The tortillas are heated till they are crispy and the cheese is fully melted.
Fajitas: Grilled meat and vegetables
Fajitas usually are in a frying pan.
They are usually meat, chicken, or shrimp with an excellent dosage of onions and peppers.
On the side, you will get a few soft tortillas.
You will also get additional ingredients.
So, using the tortillas, the fajitas, and the ingredients, make your own tacos.

Burritos: Flour tortilla + Any filling
Burritos are what we call wraps in other parts of the World.
The wrap is made of flour, and the filling can be of your choice – lots of meat and vegetables.
There is something called a wet burrito, where a lot of sauce is put on this flour tortilla.
Locals usually have a wet burrito with a knife and fork.
