The Eagle’s Nest, also known as Kehlsteinhaus, is a building constructed by the Nazi regime at the pinnacle of Kehlstein, a rocky outcrop overlooking Obersalzberg near the town of Berchtesgaden in Germany.

The Nazi Party used this building, inaugurated by Hitler on 20 April 1939, exclusively for government and social meetings.

The Kehlsteinhaus gained legendary status in the post-war period and was used as a visual motif in famous US war films and series.

This article covers everything you must know before booking Eagle’s Nest tickets.

What to expect at Eagle’s Nest

Eagle’s Nest Germany, designed by Martin Bormann, is one of the few undamaged monuments of the Hilter era.

This building, transformed into a mountain restaurant in 1952, provides an exceptional and unparalleled panoramic view of the countryside.

At the Kehlsteinhaus, you can see graffiti left by Allied troops in the woodwork after the World War.

In the restaurant, a large red Italian marble fireplace exhibits extensive damage along its lower borders, where soldiers have forcefully removed small marble fragments as keepsakes.

A room that once served as Hitler’s study area has been repurposed into a storage space for the cafeteria.

Besides its historical significance, you can enjoy this restaurant purely for its good cuisine and pristine Alpine environment.

The best time to visit the Eagle’ Nest is when it opens at 8.30 am. You’ll have a calm and serene experience, and the lighting for photography can be the best at this hour.

Avoid this attraction during midday, as it gets crowded, with long queues and packed terraces.

Another option is to visit in the late afternoon, which can be a great time for photographers, as the golden lighting before sunset can create spectacular views. It is also often less crowded than midday.

We recommend a visit on a weekday between Tuesday and Thursday when it is less crowded than weekends.

Eagle’s Nest reviews

The Eagle’s Nest in Germany is a highly-rated tourist attraction.

Breathtaking views

If you can get past the fact that you are in the same place where one of the most evil people who ever lived made his summer home, it is worth it for the absolutely breathtaking views from the mountaintop. If you are able to go walking around the mountain and not stay inside the building, definitely do so. Everything is so beautiful.

Well worth it

Living history. As simple as that. A must-see place for history buffs. The food is good, and the scenes are breathtaking.
