Duration required

Visitors need at least 2 to 3 hours to explore the Palace of Versailles, and to explore the whole Estate, 5 to 6 hours is required. One hour of travel time each way is required if traveling from Paris.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit the Palace of Versailles is after 2.30 pm when the crowd has left. Reach Versailles Estate by 10 am, then enter the Palace of Versailles between 2.30 pm and 3 pm.

Audio guide

Visitors above eight years are qualified for the free audio guide. Audio guides are available at the two desks on the ground floor of the Palace, or try the Palace of Versailles’ mobile application.

Bring water

The Palace of Versailles can be exhausting, so bring water and snacks to keep yourself hydrated and energized while exploring.

Wear comfortable shoes

Versailles Palace is the World’s largest royal domain, and exploring it requires a lot of walking. It is a good idea to wear comfortable shoes for a better experience.

Photography 

It's challenging to take good photos of the Palace of Versailles interiors due to the crowd. Artwork on the ceilings can still be captured, and the Gardens provide great photo opportunities.

Free Entry

Entry to the Estate of Versailles is free between November to March on the first Sunday of each month. European Union residents under 26 and visitors less than 18 years old qualify for free entry into Versailles

Book in advance

Depending on the day of the week and season, booking online tickets in advance saves 60 to 90 minutes of waiting time at the ticketing counter in long queues.

All Access tickets

This all-access ticket allows visitors to visit all areas of the French palace and hence is the most popular and available only on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Regular tickets

These regular Versailles Palace entrance tickets are the cheapest and provide access to the Palace of Versailles & Gardens. Visitors with only 3 to 4 hours opt for this ticket.
