If you are searching for a weekend getaway between October to March, this will be a good destination. Alwar is just 160 kms from Delhi and hence is only three hours of drive from NCR Region. There are forts to see and various views to enjoy. Just 150 kms away is Jaipur, just in case you feel like stretching your appetite for a holiday. This weekend break may cost you around Rs 3000-5000 per person.
If you are looking for a weekend getaway anytime during the year, Dehradun is a great place for you and your family. Situated in the mountain ranges of the Himalayas, this vacation spot is 240 kms away from Delhi can also be visited in summer. The travel time from Delhi to Dehradun is around five hours – plan accordingly if you are starting from Gurgaon or Noida. Your budget for this family getaway may vary from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000. During your weekend break at Dehradun, you and your family can indulge in activities such as camping, trekking etc.
The best time to go to this weekend getaway from Delhi will be in the months of September, October and November. During the rains this weekend destination stands out so you can either visit this getaway in the monsoon or winter. The budget for your family can be calculated basis the fact that the cost per person won’t go more than Rs 5000 during this break. It is 275 kms from Delhi. Since it will take you five and a half hours to reach, you may want to take a break in between when you drive from Delhi to Mussoorie. You and your family can indulge in activities such as trekking, hiking, riding the cable car ride, visiting temples etc.
Situated at a distance of 400 kms, this weekend getaway is six hours drive from Delhi (a little more or less if you are starting from Gurgaon or Noida). This weekend break might be a little costlier than the rest at an average of Rs 7500 per family person. The best time to be here is during the winter, that is between the months of October and March. If you end up coming here any other month, your family may just dislike you because of the heat. You can plan to enjoy the mosque, the music and the historic places during this break.
You can make this weekend getaway as costly as you want because there are some excellent Taj Hotel properties in Agra which give you a view of the Taj Mahal from the room – which will be loved by your family members. The best time to visit is winter – that is from October to February. During summer it becomes a bit hectic, and the elderly and infants in your family may not like the break. Agra is 220 kms from Delhi and can be reached in a little less than three hours. There are gardens, forts, shopping, galleries etc that you can enjoy with your family.
The best time to visit this weekend holiday destination will be between August to November. Situated approximately three hundred kms from Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida, Bhimtal will definitely charm you and your family. It is a good weekend getaway during winters and monsoons. The travelling time from Delhi is around five and half hours. There are various lakes and hills to be experienced at this vacation spot, which we are sure your family will love. Bhimtal is 1370 meters above sea level so if you get nauseated during a hill climb, don’t forget to carry your medicines.
This is a bit far away from Delhi, and if you want to convert this into a weekend break you will have to add a Friday to your time away from work. Bikaner is 500 kms from Delhi and it takes around nine hours to reach – so please chose this option if you don’t have any infants or elders in your family. Since it is a vacation destination in Rajasthan, winter is the best time to take weekend breaks in Bikaner. The whole family can visit the forts one day and on the second day a safari or hiking can be enjoyed.
If your family is into a bit of adventure, this can be a perfect weekend getaway. Rishikesh is a good place to go in summers, monsoon or winter. It is 225 kms away from Delhi and the whole distance takes four and half hours to cross – of course some could have done it quicker. There are a lot of adventure activities for your family at this weekend getaway – such as Trekking, Forest walk or Rafting. For the religious families there is the temple visit, the Ashram visit, Meditation, Yoga etc. The beauty of Rishikesh is that you can finish the weekend break at per head cost of Rs 500/family member or even stretch it to Rs 50,000/family member.
The best time to visit this weekend vacation spot is October to March, when it is much cooler. Situated a little more than 250 kms from Delhi (if you will be coming from Noida or Gurgaon, please plan accordingly) this weekend getaway is reachable in four and half hours. It is a great place for a family vacation what with activities such as hill climbing, lake visiting, fort exploring, going on safaris etc. If you have a family of four, you may be able to finish this weekend getaway within Rs 10,000 or stretch it to Rs 50,000 – your wish.
Gwalior is five hours drive from Delhi (it is 328 Kms) and is one of the few weekend getaways which is to the south of the NCR Region. The cost of your weekend getaway will be not more than Rs 2500 per family member. There are enough attractions in Gwalior to keep you and your family busy for the whole weekend. Attractions such as the Gwalior Fort, the Saas Bahu temple, Jai Vilas Palace Museum, Gopachal Parvat and the Sun Temple.
This weekend getaway is right at the top of the Punjab land, and is as Punjabi as any city can get. The best time to visit is throughout the year – come rain or shine. Can a little cold during winters so please take your woolens. The drive is bit longer – at eight kms – so best is to take a train and there are enough. Leave on a Friday night with your family and children so you can reach Amritsar early in the morning on Saturday. After you have seen the Golden Temple, the Jallianwala Bagh and the Wagah border (which is just 35 kms from Amritsar) do try out the authentic Punjabi food.
